Yes. You must meet these age minimums:

  • 14+ on  the 30-mile route
  • 12+ on the 15-mile route
  • 10+ for the 5-mile route
  • All ages are welcome on the 5K walk.

All participants under 18 must ride or walk with a parent or guardian; no more than two minors per adult.

Do I need to bring my own bicycle?

  • Yes. Riders are responsible for providing their own bicycle to participate in the event.
  • Please note that all riders must wear a helmet in order to participate in the event.

How much of the money will go to the Autism Science Foundation?

We work very hard to keep production expenses as low as possible by soliciting sponsorships, donations and discounts for supplies.

To date, each year our sponsors’ support have made it possible for 100% of participant donations to be delivered to ASF. Ultimately, the amount of money, and the percent return, depends upon how many people ride and how much each rider raises.

What is the terrain like?

Spectacularly scenic! The 30 mile ride is hilly and you will want to train for the climbs, but the 15 mile and 5 mile options are perfect for the casual rider.

GPS routes are available, but please note the Ride with GPS links are for informational purposes only and should not be used for navigation on the event. Your actual route may deviate from those posted here; follow the posted signs at the event

Do I need to be affiliated with the financial community to ride?

Absolutely not! While we are most grateful to the financial community for its outpouring of support (please visit our Sponsors page for examples), Baltimore Rides FAR is open to all.

The Routes

The Farm and Field
A challenging and hilly 30-mile romp through the Maryland countryside for ages 14 and up. You’ll want to train up for the climbs, the better to enjoy the sweeping downhills as you ride through a mix of suburban and rural vistas. (Total climbing: 2,000 feet)

The Festive Fifteen

A sweet 15-mile ride that’s well suited to the casual cyclist ages 12 and up. You’ll enjoy the views as you ride through a series of leafy neighborhoods at the start of fall. (Total climbing: 1,050 feet)

The Friendly Five

Our family-friendly 5-mile route takes you through a nearby residential neighborhood that riders 10 years and up will enjoy. (Total climbing: 250 feet)

The 5K

A 5K walk that takes you from Howard Community College directly into an adjacent neighborhood, ending with a woodland stroll on a paved trail as you return to campus.

Family Fun

Families will have a blast on Baltimore Rides FAR! Choose the activities that suit your interests. If you have a family member taking part in one of the longer cycling routes, you can enjoy our family fun while s/he is out riding, and still be on hand to cheer your loved one back home at the end.

Upon your return to the finish festival site, there’s more family fun! The kids can choose from a selection of games and, of course, enjoy a delicious lunch.
