How to Participate

So you want to be part of the Ride—great! There are many different ways to participate

Riders

Fundraising

Each rider on the cycling routes commits to raising $500 to support the Autism Science Foundation Canada. (Walkers raise at least $250 per person or family of up to two parents and two children.) If you’ve never fundraised before, that can sound daunting, but with a plan you can do it—and that’s what we’re here for!

  • You’ll be assigned a rider coach, who will be your advocate from the day you sign up. Sit down with her, give her a call or e-mail a question anytime.
  • Our fundraising worksheet is your step-by-step resource to prepare for the ride. With tips on throwing a fundraising party, lots of worksheets, even a sample letter, it's filled with tools to help you exceed your goal.
  • This website is designed to help you raise money. You’ll get a customizable web page where your friends can donate and you can track donations. Our website makes it a piece of cake!
  • Form a team and you can fundraise both as a group and individually.

Most riders are worried about fundraising when they start, but if you take advantage of our services, you can find yourself raising double, even triple the minimum! That's the difference Bay Street Rides FAR’s support can make.

Training

Do you need to be a top athlete to complete Bay Street Rides FAR? Absolutely not! Still, the routes have their challenges so you do need to prepare.

  • Our training worksheet lays out the framework of an effective training plan and your coach is always available to answer your questions.
  • Get inspired as you train! Join our Strava club and if you ride with Peloton, add the hashtag #RidesFAR to your profile to connect with other community members on the ride.
  • It’s always more fun to train with a ride buddy. Consider forming a team!

Teams

Share the love—form a team! Being part of a team is a great way to build camaraderie and get some extra support. Any group of four or more Riders can share the experience! Start a team with your colleagues at your company or with a club, religious group, friends, or family. In addition to fun and prizes, every team can take advantage of these benefits:

  • A “team” fundraising account in addition to your individual rider accounts.
  • Customizable team fundraising web page.
  • Receive a design for a custom jersey, just for your team. The design is complimentary; you may purchase jerseys at cost.
  • A custom “Lunch ‘n’ Learn” ride preview just for registered team riders and those who are thinking about joining your team.
  • Opportunities for those who don’t ride to join your team as volunteers. Everyone can represent!

To form a team, register for the ride as an individual. Once you have provided your information, you will receive a prompt asking if you would like to join an existing team or form a new one. Select the appropriate option and start that team fundraising, If you have questions about forming a team or team benefits, please email Katie Sime at ksime@autismsciencefoundation.org.

Virtual Riders

Registration

  • Becoming a virtual rider is easy. Simply register as a virtual rider—there’s no registration fee to sign up—and choose the ride that’s right for you.
  • We suggest that you choose the same challenge you would do if you were with us in person, whether that’s the flagship (50 km ride), a 10 km ride with your family, a 5K walk through your local park or something in between.
  • Join our Strava club and if you ride with Peloton, add the hashtag #RidesFAR to your profile and you can convert your individual activity into a group experience!

Fundraising

  • As a virtual rider, there is no fundrasiing requirement. However, virtual riders who raise $500 or more by September 13, 2024 will receive our exclusive “Virtual Oasis-in-a-Box,” an Oasis theme box packed with goodies that will bring the Ride to your doorstep in time for the live event!
  • Just like physical riders, we’ll send you your official Bay Street Rides FAR hat, your rider number and event bottle, plus an Oasis “theme” item and even a snack!

Volunteer Crew

Our extraordinary, volunteer crew have one job: To keep the riders and trail walkers safe and happy. They will anticipate our participants’ needs. At tricky turns our Motorcycle Safety crew will guide the riders safely through. On the course will be an “Oasis.” More than a simple pit stop, it’s a respite from the road with lots of cheering and a variety of snacks, water and sport drink, toilets, medical assistance and bike techs. Similarly, our crew will set up a water stop at the midpoint of the trail walk. Our sweep vans have a way of appearing when you need them. Do you have what it takes to be part of our volunteer crew? Registration is free, so sign up today!

Although Crew are not required to fundraise, you’re certainly welcome to do so. Some of our Crew raise hundreds of dollars each year!
